The first incarnation of the Toyota Sienna minivan, which replaced the Previa model, made its official debut in January 1997 at the International Auto Show in Detroit, and entered mass production in September of the same year. In 2001, the Japanese retouched the exterior of the car, made improvements to the interior decoration and modernized the engine, after which they kept it on the conveyor until the end of 2002.

The original "release" Toyota Sienna is a five-door minivan with a seven-seater cabin organization, which is 4915 mm long, 1864 mm wide and 1710 mm high.

The vehicle has a wheelbase of 2900 mm of the overall length, and its "combat" weight is 1815 kg (total weight is 2380 kg).

For the first generation Sienna, one 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine was offered with an aluminum cylinder block, a 24-valve DOHC timing belt, multipoint injection and a variable valve timing function (VVT-i).
Before the upgrade in 2001, the engine generated 197 "stallions" and 284 Nm of torque potential, and then received 210 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 298 Nm of ultimate thrust at 4400 rpm in its arsenal.

As standard, the minivan was equipped with a 4-band hydromechanical "automatic" and drive wheels of the front axle.

At the heart of the "first" Toyota Sienna (factory index XL10) is an extended version of the front-wheel drive platform from Camry in the body of the XV20 with a transversely oriented power unit.
On the front axle of the car, an independent architecture with McPherson strut struts is applied, and in the rear, a semi-independent system with an H-beam and separately based shock absorbers and springs is applied.
In all modifications, the minivan uses a rack and pinion steering complex with a hydraulic booster, and its braking center is formed by ventilated "pancakes" in the front, "drums" at the rear and ABS.

Reliable design, comfortable interior, efficient engine, affordable service, confident behavior on the road, decent equipment and comfortable suspension are just a few of the positive features of the original generation Sienna.
But the car was not without its drawbacks - high fuel consumption, not the most efficient "automatic machine" and low prevalence on Russian roads.
