Already in the first quarter of 2015, sales of the budget JAC J4 sedan should start in Russia, which, along with the JAC S3 crossover, will have to make a significant contribution to improving the position of the JAC brand in the Russian market. The novelty, conceived as a global model for several regions, was highly appreciated in China, where it has been successfully sold (under the name A30) for several months, so that in Russia the JAC J4 has every chance of success.
In the work on the appearance of the JAC J4, the Chinese were helped by Italian designers who managed to squeeze the maximum possible from the modest budget provided, so that the compact sedan turned out to be fair, proportional and harmonious. There is nothing superfluous in its exterior, all the details are well combined with each other, and the radiator grill and taillights give the car the originality necessary today. In terms of dimensions, the JAC J4 is slightly larger than the popular Hyundai Solaris in Russia: the length of the sedan is 4435 mm, the wheelbase is 2560 mm, the width of the novelty is limited to 1725 mm, and the height is 1505 mm. Ground clearance (clearance) JAC J4 is 160 mm for an "empty" car and 125 mm when fully loaded. The curb weight of the novelty is 1100 kg.
The salon of the Jak J4 sedan is classic, five-seater and quite spacious for a compact sedan. The salon is decorated in a rather simple style, but with taste and European spirit, which, again, is the merit of Italian designers. The interior of JAC J4 is quite ergonomic, in any case, in the driver's seat everything is at hand and unnecessary efforts to control the on-board systems are not required. Finishing materials also look very decent, although a slight "Chinese" smell is still felt.
There are also downsides. Firstly, not a very comfortable fit both in the front and in the back. Secondly, the abundance of small, non-spacious pockets could be replaced with a smaller number of more capacious ones. And, thirdly, the pseudochromic coating of the interior details is popping out rather quickly, making the interior less attractive.
As for the luggage compartment of the JAC J4, it is ready to accommodate up to 550 liters of cargo, but the large loading height will create obvious problems when loading heavy luggage.
Specifications. The choice of engines for the JAC J4 sedan is not provided. The novelty received only a 1.5-liter gasoline unit with 4 in-line cylinders. The equipment of the engine, which is also used on the new JAC S3 crossover, includes a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, Variable Valve Timing and multi-point fuel injection. The maximum output of the motor is declared by the manufacturer at the level of 113 hp available at 6000 rpm, and the upper limit of its torque reaches 146 Nm at 3500 - 4500 rpm.
The engine is aggregated with a basic 5-speed manual transmission or with an optional continuously variable "variator" CVT.
Regardless of the type of gearbox, the JAC J4 sedan is capable of reaching the first 100 km / h on the speedometer in 13.5 seconds or accelerating to a maximum speed of 180 km / h. As for fuel consumption, with manual transmission the sedan eats about 5.9 liters of AI-92 gasoline in the combined driving cycle, and with the "variator" - 6.2 liters.
At the heart of the JAC J4 is a front-wheel drive platform with fully independent suspension based on MacPherson struts at the front and a semi-independent torsion bar at the rear. The front wheels of the novelty are equipped with ventilated disc brakes with two-piston calipers, on the wheels of the rear axle drum mechanisms are preferred, which in the top-end configuration of the version with a "variator" give way to disc brakes. The rack and pinion steering of the JAC J4 sedan is equipped with an electromechanical power steering with variable effort.
Complete set and prices. JAC J4 is scheduled to enter the Russian market in the first quarter of 2015. In the base, the sedan will receive 15-inch alloy wheels, halogen optics, front and rear foglights, full power accessories (including electrically adjustable and heated mirrors), a fabric interior, two front airbags, an on-board computer, air conditioning, central locking with remote control, alarm, ABS systems and EBD, as well as a standard audio system with 4 speakers and support for AUX / USB / iPod. However, the final list of equipment has not yet been approved, as well as the price of JAC J4, projected at 360,000 - 420,000 rubles for the basic configuration.
