The fourth generation of the car with the in-house marking "JL" was officially demonstrated to the general public at the end of November 2017 (at the Los Angeles Auto Show) - in terms of design, it followed an evolutionary path of development: retaining recognizable proportions, but at the same time received a modernized "filling", powerful and economical motors and a wide range of equipment available.

Externally, the "fourth" Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is decorated in a single "key" with the "three-door brother", demonstrating square-angular shapes with simple bumpers, a branded radiator grille, protruding wheel arches, round headlights and square lamps, and its feature is the presence of two additional rear doors (and, accordingly, increased dimensions).

"Wrangler" has the following dimensions: 4785 mm in length, 1868 mm in height and 1875 mm in width. The center-to-center distance of the car is 3008 mm, and its ground clearance varies from 246 to 274 mm.

When loaded, the five-door weighs from 1905 to 1960 kg (depending on the version).

At the front, the interior of the Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited does not differ from that of the short-wheelbase model - a modern but recognizable design with a sheer front panel, solid materials, quality workmanship and comfortable front seats with sufficient adjustment intervals.

But the back row of the five-door SUV is spacious, with a flat floor and a shapeless sofa, on which even three adults can fit without any problems.

The standard luggage compartment of the car is 897 liters (when loaded under the roof - according to the SAE method). The second row of seats folds in two parts, but does not form an even "rookery". The American's full-size spare wheel is suspended from the lower section of the fifth door.

The fourth generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is equipped with the same engines as its three-door "brother":

  • The gasoline range consists of:
    • naturally aspirated V6 with a working volume of 3.6 liters, developing 285 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 353 Nm of torque at 4800 rpm,
    • and a 2.0-liter turbocharged "four" that generates 270 hp. at 5250 rpm and 400 Nm of rotational potential at 3000 rpm (this unit is also equipped with a starter-generator and a 48-volt traction battery).
  • There is only one diesel for the car - a V-shaped six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine producing 260 horsepower.

The power plants work in conjunction with a 6-speed manual or 8-range automatic transmissions and an all-wheel drive transmission (of which three types are declared):

  • with a rigidly connected front axle and a range multiplier (Command Trac);
  • with "creeping" reduction gear (Rock-Track);
  • with multi-plate clutch (automatically starting the front axle) and limited slip differential or locks on both axles.

From a constructive point of view, the "fourth" Jeep Wrangler Unlimited repeats the three-door model: a spar frame, continuous Dana axles "in a circle", disc brakes on each of the wheels (ventilated at the front) and electro-hydraulic power steering.

The hood, windshield frame, doors and tailgate of the SUV are made of aluminum.

And the roof can be of three types to choose from:

  • rigid (with the possibility of dismantling),
  • soft (with the possibility of dismantling),
  • non-removable cloth with electric folding over the seats.

In 2018, the fourth-generation five-door Wrangler is delivered to Russia exclusively with a 272 hp gasoline engine. (in the foreseeable future, a 2.2-liter turbodiesel is also expected in our country) and an 8-band "automatic" in three trim levels to choose from - "Sport", "Sahara" and "Rubicon".

An SUV in the starting version is offered at a price of 3,380,000 rubles, for the next version in the hierarchy you will have to pay at least 3,730,000 rubles, and the extreme version will not be cheaper than 3,950,000 rubles.

In terms of initial and additional equipment, the five-door model has no significant differences from the three-door "brother".
