The Porsche 911 is a premium rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive sports car with a rear-engined layout and a 2 + 2 seating arrangement, which combines "the highest engineering that allows you to defeat your rivals on the track" and "adaptability for daily use" (albeit with certain inconveniences ) ... Its main target audience is wealthy and stylish people (regardless of gender and age) who prefer to personally drive a car (but for them this is far from the only car in the family) ...

Each new generation of the Porsche 911 is already a global event, and it turned out to be the same now: the eighth generation coupe with the in-house index "992" became the main debutant at the international auto show in Los Angeles, which took place at the end of November 2018. Moreover, only two versions of the sports car were presented to the public - Carrera S and Carrera 4S.

Despite the visual similarity with all its predecessors taken together, the "German" has improved in all respects, without exception: it has slightly enlarged in size, received a completely new, but recognizable interior and has replenished its functionality with modern systems. In addition, the car was "armed" with a modernized engine and a new robotic transmission, as a result of which it added dynamism, and also "perched" on a seriously modified chassis.

Outside, the "eighth" Porsche 911 impresses with its expressiveness - its outlines not only maintain continuity, but also trace certain associations with the predecessors of the 1960s and 1970s, although the handles recessed into the door panels and retractable electrically do not allow you to forget , in which all the same century the machine was created.

The front part of the two-door is completely devoid of aggression - its "pop-eyed face" flaunts "family" drop-shaped headlights with a fully LED component and an aerodynamically thought-out bumper with huge air intakes. But its powerful stern already looks more impressive - spectacular lanterns stretching across the entire width of the body, and a raised bumper, from which two "large-caliber double-barreled guns" of the exhaust system stick out.

In profile, the car literally mesmerizes with its elegant, balanced and impetuous proportions - a strong obstruction of the windshield, a roof with a slight hump, narrow "drops" of side windows, muscular "hips" and impressive flourishes of wheel arches (20- inch "rollers", and at the back - 21-inch).

The overall length of the eighth generation Porsche 911 is 4519 mm, of which the wheelbase extends to 2450 mm, its width is 1852 mm, and its height does not exceed 1300 mm. The width of the front and rear track of the coupe is 1589 mm and 1557 mm, respectively, and its "traveling" weight varies from 1515 to 1565 kg, depending on the modification.

Inside, the Porsche 911 with index 992 catches the eye, first of all, by the 10.9-inch touchscreen of the infotainment complex, which occupies the dominant position on the center console, under which there are an unusual row of five keys that control the main functions and a small PDK "robot" lever ... The driver is directly in charge of a retro tachometer, surrounded by bezel-less displays, the content of which can be configured at your discretion, as well as a relief multi-steering wheel with developed tides in the correct grip area and a zero mark. Only premium finishing materials are used inside the car: genuine leather, aluminum, carbon, etc.

The decoration of the compartment is organized according to the "2 + 2" scheme, that is, the back row is purely formal here - more or less comfortably only people of short stature will be able to accommodate there, and even then not for long. The front riders rely on bucket seats with a pronounced side profile, rigid filler and sufficient electrical adjustment ranges (and as an option - even heated and ventilated).

The trunk at the two-door is in the front part of the body (in front of the "inhabited" cabin), but its volume is an unfortunate 132 liters. However, the backs of the rear seats of the car fold down, resulting in an additional 264 liters of space for small luggage.

The Porsche 911 in the Carrera S / Carrera 4S versions is powered by a 3.0-liter, all-aluminum, petrol boxer "six" with two turbochargers, an intercooler, direct fuel injection, variable valve timing and valve lift at the inlet, lubrication system with dry sump and an adaptive oil pump that generates 450 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 530 Nm of torque at 2300-5000 rpm.

The sports car in the Carrera S version is equipped with an 8-band "robot" PDK with paddle shifters and a rear-wheel drive transmission with a technology for redistributing traction between the wheels and a mechanical differential lock (which, by the way, are also equipped with all-wheel drive cars).

Modifications to the Carrera 4S rely on active all-wheel drive with a multi-plate clutch that transfers torque to the front wheels.

From one place to the first "hundred" the German coupe breaks down after 3.6-3.7 seconds (with the Sport Chrono package - 0.2 seconds faster), and the maximum gains 306-308 km / h (naturally, in favor of the all-wheel drive version).

In combined mode, the car consumes 8.9-9.0 liters of high-octane fuel for every 100 kilometers.

At the heart of the eighth generation Porsche 911 is the rear-wheel drive platform of its predecessor, which has gone through a thorough modernization process. The entire lower part of the power structure, as well as most of the outer panels of the two-door, are made of aluminum, but a full carbon roof is available as an option.

"In a circle" the car is equipped with independent suspensions with anti-roll bars: front - MacPherson type, rear - multi-link. By default, the vehicle is equipped with an adaptive PASM chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers.

The sports car boasts electromechanical power steering with variable gear ratio and variable effort, and as an option, it relies on a fully steerable chassis with steering wheels at the rear.

In the "base" coupe has brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers (in both cases - fixed monoblock), as well as ventilated and perforated discs measuring 350 mm "in a circle".
For a fee, the sports car offers ceramic composite brakes with 410 mm discs at the front and 390 mm at the rear (in the second case, with floating calipers).

In the Russian market, the Porsche 911 series 992 can be purchased at a price of 7,749,000 rubles - this is how much they ask for a rear-wheel drive version of the Carrera S 2019 model year. But for the all-wheel drive version of the Carrera 4S, you will have to pay at least 8,199,000 rubles.

The initial two-door configuration includes: six airbags, ABS, ESP, ERA-GLONASS system, PASM active suspension, light-alloy wheels (20-inch front, 21-inch rear), dual-zone climate control, premium audio system with nine speakers, full LED optics, adaptive cruise control, a 10.9-inch media center, power front seats and more.
