Honda City is a front-wheel drive "conditionally budget" class "B +" sedan (although in fact it is quite comparable to some representatives of the "golf" segment), which combines an "adult" design, a modern interior and a good technical component ... It is focused on a wide target audience - both young people and married couples (including those with children), and elderly people ...

The official premiere of the seventh generation Honda City (although the company itself calls it the "fifth", since only in the third incarnation the car received a three-volume body) took place at the end of November 2019 at a special event in Bangkok, and shortly after this event, the four-door went on sale at the local market.

As before, the sedan is based on the Honda Jazz / Fit hatchback, but it differs radically from its predecessor, since after the "reincarnation" it has become more attractive, larger and more modern.

Outwardly, the "seventh" Honda City boasts a really nice, balanced and "adult" design and looks at least not budgetary - an energetic "physiognomy" with intricate LED optics, a "family" radiator grille and a raised bumper, a harmonious silhouette with complex plastic sidewalls and a short "Offshoot" of the trunk, an attractive stern with graceful lanterns and a "puffy" bumper.

In terms of its dimensions, the seventh generation Honda City fits well into the compact segment: its length is 4553 mm, width - 1748 mm, height - 1467 mm. The center distance of the car is 2589 mm, and its ground clearance is 135 mm. When equipped, the car weighs 1150 to 1165 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

Inside, the sedan is designed to match the exterior - there is not even a hint of its "budget essence" (at least in expensive trim levels). A three-spoke multi-steering wheel with tides in the correct grip area, a laconic "toolbox" with a pair of dial gauges and a small "window" of the on-board computer between them, a nice center console with an 8-inch touchscreen of the media center and an extremely understandable "remote control" of the air conditioning system - visually, the decoration of the four-door exactly responds modern trends.

The salon at Honda City is five-seater, and all riders, without exception, should feel more or less at ease here. In the front there are chairs with an unobtrusive side profile and normal adjustment ranges, and in the back there is a full-fledged sofa with three headrests and a folding armrest in the center.

The Japanese sedan has a decent luggage compartment, which in normal condition is capable of "absorbing" up to 506 liters of luggage. In addition to this, the back of the "gallery" folds in two sections, opening an opening for the transportation of oversized cargo. A full-fledged spare wheel and a set of tools are hidden in a niche under the raised floor near the four-door.

Specifications

The power range of the seventh generation Honda City depends on the market:

  • So in Thailand, the car is offered with a four-cylinder petrol engine of the VTEC Turbo series with a working volume of 1.0 liter with turbocharging, direct injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, which develops 122 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 173 Nm of torque at 2000 -4500 rpm, and is combined with a CVT variator with paddle shifters for manual shifting between seven virtual gears.
  • In India, the same three-volume is supplied with either a petrol 1.5-liter "aspirated" i-VTEC DOHC, developing 121 hp. at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of peak thrust at 4300 rpm, or a turbodiesel "four" i-DTEC DOHC of the same volume, producing 100 hp at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm.

Both engines are mated to a 6-speed "mechanics", and the gasoline - also with a variator.

Design features

The seventh Honda City is based on a front-wheel-drive architecture borrowed from the Jazz / Fit hatchback, with abundant use of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel in the structural body structure. At the front, the sedan is equipped with an independent suspension with classic MacPherson struts, and at the rear - a semi-independent system with a torsion beam (but "in a circle" - with anti-roll bars).

The car has a rack-and-pinion steering with active electric power steering, and all its wheels accommodate disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle), combined with ABS, EBD and BA.

Options and prices

In the foreseeable future, the seventh generation Honda City may appear on the Russian market, but the exact dates have not been announced. At the same time, in Thailand, the sedan is offered at a price of 579,500 baht (≈1.36 million rubles), while in India they ask for at least 1,089,900 rupees (≈1.06 million rubles).

The basic three-volume configuration includes: four airbags, ABS, ESP, power windows, 15-inch steel wheels, a four-speaker audio system, fog lights, LED DRLs and taillights, as well as other modern equipment.
