The Subaru XV is a "compact category" all-wheel drive crossover that is suitable for a variety of tasks, from driving on city streets to traveling off-road. In his arsenal - "an excellent set of qualities" for those who care about how the car drives: polished behavior on the road, "muscular" suspension and an excellent tandem of the engine and variator ...

The second "edition" of the off-road vehicle was officially presented to the world community in March 2017 (on the podiums of the Geneva Motor Show) - the car became the serial embodiment of the XV Concept show car, which was displayed on the Swiss stand a year before.

During the "change of generations" the five-door "moved" to a completely new platform, slightly enlarged in size, slightly changed in visual terms, and generally improved in all directions.

In October 2019, the premiere of the restyled SUV took place, but then only in the specification for the Japanese market, while in the USA the updated car made its debut only in June 2020 (under the name Crosstrek), and even reached Russia later - in March 2021 of the year. As a result of the modernization, the car was slightly "refreshed" externally due to new bumpers and a radiator grill and received changed characteristics of shock absorbers and springs in the suspension, and in our country it also lost the base engine.

The exterior design of the "second" Subaru XV is based on the new concept "Dynamic & Solid" ("Dynamics and integrity), but at the same time the car is absolutely recognizable, and on top of that - fresh, attractive and concise.

Full face, the crossover flaunts the piercing gaze of lighting technology and a matte black "trapezium" of the radiator grille with large-mesh ornaments, and on the side it boasts sporty outlines, the dynamism of which is given by a long hood, energetic "folds" on the sides and a sloping roof.

Harmoniously, the appearance of the "Japanese" is completed by the expressive rear with complex lanterns and a relief bumper, and "armor" made of unpainted plastic along the perimeter of the body extols a bit of solidity.

"X-Wee" of the second generation is a full-fledged representative of the class of compact crossovers: its length is 4485 mm, height reaches 1615 mm, width does not exceed 1800 mm. The distance between the axles of the car is 2665 mm, and 220 mm ground clearance separates it from the road.

Interior

The interior of the "second" Subaru XV does not indulge in design delights, but it looks beautiful, modern and sporty stylish. At the very top of the center console under the visor "lives" the color screen of the on-board computer, and below it there are an 8-inch "TV" of the multimedia complex and an impeccable "microclimate" unit. The steering wheel of the car has verified proportions with developed "tides", and behind it hides classic analog instruments with a small display in the middle.

The all-terrain vehicle "flaunts" high-quality finishing materials and a solid level of workmanship.

The front riders in the off-road vehicle find themselves in the tight embrace of comfortable seats with a well-developed side profile, optimal rigidity and sufficient adjustment intervals. Passengers in the second row are provided with a hospitably molded sofa and the necessary space in all directions, although the person sitting in the middle will clearly be disturbed by a high floor tunnel.

The trunk of the Subaru XV has the correct shape, and its standard volume is over 380 liters. The second row of seats folds in two parts, but forms a tangible step into the salon, although it increases the "hold" capacity to 1220 liters. In a niche under the raised floor there is a full spare wheel and a minimum set of tools.

Specifications

In the Russian market for the restyled crossover, one gasoline four-cylinder "aspirated" is provided that meets the environmental standards "Euro-5", with a horizontally opposed configuration, multi-point injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, generating 150 horsepower at 6200 rpm / minute and 196 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.

The engine mates with a lightweight Lineartronic variator, which can simulate seven gears, and an all-wheel drive Symmetrical AWD transmission with a multi-plate clutch, which has electronic-hydraulic control, and X-Mode technology, which adjusts the operating parameters of the power unit, gearbox and stabilization system on slippery surfaces. By default, the traction between the wheels of the car is distributed in equal shares, however, depending on the road situation, this proportion may vary.

It is worth noting that before the update, the car was also equipped with an atmospheric gasoline "boxer" of 1.6 liters (114 hp at 6200 rpm and 150 Nm at 3600 rpm), which was also combined with a variator and all-wheel drive Symmetrical AWD.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

The off-road vehicle accelerates from zero to the first "hundred" after 10.6 seconds, and reaches 192 km / h as much as possible.

In the combined driving mode, the car requires 7.1 liters for every 100 km of run.

Design features

The "second" Subaru XV extends on the new SPG (Subaru Global Platform) bogie, which involves extensive use of high-strength steel grades in the body structure and transverse engine arrangement at the front.

The front wheels of the off-road vehicle rest on an independent architecture with McPherson struts, while the rear wheels are attached via a multi-link system (on both axles with transverse stabilizers). The car is equipped with a rack and pinion steering mechanism with an electric power steering and a variable gear ratio. The five-door brake complex is formed by disc brakes “in a circle” (ventilated in front) and a whole “bunch” of modern electronics (ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and other “gadgets”).
